2019 Session: March 8 Update

As we prepare for “cross-over” where bills go from their originating chamber to the other chamber of the NH General Court, hearings are beginning to slow. However the hearings are becoming more important, as they approach their second hurdle. Liberty Lobby LLC has been at the statehouse and Legislative Office Building (LOB) testifying for pro-freedom legislation and against anti-freedom legislation. In addition to attending several subcommittee hearings and Executive Sessions, CEO, Darryl W. Perry provided testimony on the following bills during the first week of March.

Bill #TitlePosition
SB158 Relative to town and city membership in a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization and prohibiting recipients of municipal or county funds from using such funds for lobbying. OTP
Additionally on March 7 the NH House overwhelmingly passed HB455 “Relative to the penalty for capital murder.” which will repeal the death penalty in New Hampshire. This bill now heads to the Senate, where it it expected to pass before facing a Gubernatorial veto. I’m told there are enough votes in the Senate to over-ride the pending veto. The NH House also defeated HB202 a bill “requir[ing] that any presidential primary candidate file 5 years’ worth of his or her federal income tax returns along with his or her declaration of candidacy to the secretary of state, and requires the secretary of state to certify and make publicly available such tax returns.”

My testimony is available on the Liberty Lobby LLC YouTube channel. You can find updates on committee recommendations, and actions by the House and Senate, on legislation we are tracking, here.
